Lahore: The arrangements of making the largest human flag of the world have been completed and a total of 29,040 people will gather here at National Hockey Stadium to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) of the largest human flag.
Speaking at the press conference here on Friday, Punjab Education and Sports Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan said: “The enthusiastic Punjab youth will try to smash as many as 100 world records. The dream of Punjab government to attract the youth towards the healthy activities has turned into reality through Punjab Youth Festival.” Sports Board Punjab DG Usman Anwar, Tahia Noon and GWR officials were also present there.
After setting the world record of the largest human flag, 150,000 passionate Punjab people will also try snatch the world record of national anthem from India on February 19. “I am proud of great enthusiasm shown by the young boys and girls in the preparations of these grand events. Today, world is trying to chase records set by Pakistan instead of negative propagation,” he stated.
Mashhood said that the number of participants was exceeded four millions and definitely it would grow to new extent till the end of the PYF.
To a query, he replied that the sports culture was developing in the country through PYF and people from across the world were thronging to Pakistan to feature in the grand event. “The Punjab Youth Festival will prove to be a platform for holding of grand events like Asian and Olympic Games,” he opined.
The minister rejected the impression that the students were being dragged to the PYF events forcibly. “Such events play key role in bringing maturity in the characters of kids and it is quite common in the world,” he elaborated.
Replying to another query he said that foolproof security arrangements had been made and all the flaws had been removed properly. He also recognised the patronage of federal government for holding of festival.
Guinness World Record representative Leo Wiger praised the hospitality of Pakistan and its people saying that he has visited 46 countries but never received such a love and respect anywhere. Ms Anatolia, the female GWR official, said that she had different views about Pakistan people before visiting the country. “I liked the culture of Pakistan and the freedom, the Pakistani women are enjoying.”
Meanwhile, the full dress rehearsal to make the world’s largest human flag for the Guinness World Record (GWR) was held here at the National Hockey Stadium on Friday under the banner of Punjab Youth Festival 2014.
Around 30,000 students from different schools gathered at the stadium to make the largest human flag for new world record. Provincial Sports Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Director General Usman Anwar along with the GWR representatives visited the arena to view the arrangements of the mega event.
The participants showed great enthusiasm and kept on chanting slogans ‘Pakistan Zindabad’. Earlier in last the Punjab Sports Festival, Pakistan created a new world record of making the largest human flag with the participation of over 24,000 people which was broken by Bangladeshi students and army men with the participation of 27,117 last year.
