World’s Biggest Flag would be made in PYF 2014

pics (13)pics (14)pics (9)pics (12)pics (11)pics (10)Lahore: As many as 11,130 participants from 9 Divisions of the Province turned up for Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) 2014 Divisional Level competitions on the fifth day and 1,139 qualified for the next round on Thursday.

The Faisalabad Division remained the busiest part of the province as far as the number of participants was concerned. As many as 4,670 players featured in the PYF events but only 118 met with success. Lahore Division was at number two as of regarding the participation. In all, 3,953 athletes took part in several PYF events. However, 244 managed to grab a place in the next phase.

Total 685 athletes exhibited their prowess in various events in Sahiwal Division where 264 bagged victories in their respective events. In Rawalpindi Division, out of 361 players, 87 returned successful. Total 126 athletes took part in different contests in Sargodha Division and 46 were declared as winners. In Gujranwala Division, 142 players made it to the next stage out of 480 contestants. Out of 157 players of Multan Division, 48 were declared triumphant. In total 49 athletes were handed tickets for the next stage in Bahawalpur Division out of 177. The number of successful players was 141 in DG Khan Division while overall, 521 athletes appeared in various PYF events.

The full dress rehearsal to make the World’s Biggest Flag for the Gunnies World Record (GWR) will be conducted at the National Hockey Stadium on 14th February. In all, 30,000 students from different schools will try to make the Flag to make a new World Record.

Talking to the reporters regarding the rehearsal, Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Director General Mr. Usman Anwar said that student would break the record of Bangladesh who made this world record with the participation of 27,117 people. “The students who are taking part in the attempt to break the world record are the National Heroes and we will try to provide all the best possible facilities to them.” He further said that the students were very much excited to create the world record. The Gunnies World Record team has already been arrived to monitor the events in which the new records will be made.

Nankana Sahib won the Punjab Youth Festival (PYF) 2014 Inter-District Tape Ball Cricket Tournament in a thrilling fashion at Iqbal Park Sports Complex here on Thursday.

The Nankana cricket team scripted a narrow seven-run victory against Sheikhupura district in the title clash. Nankana’s skipper Jameel, who hit 27 runs of just 10 balls, played key role in his team’s victory. Pacer Shahbaz, who captured 4-8 in one over, also contributed an invaluable part in his team’s slim triumph and was adjudged Man Of The Match later.

Earlier in the First Semi-Final, Sheikhupura defeated Kasur in super over and booked a place in the finals. Before the super over, both Sheikhupura and Kasur played a tied match. Team from Nankana Sahib stunned far experienced side of Lahore in the Second Semifinal. Lahore Cricket Team scored 34 runs while using the track first in stipulated overs. Nankana Cricket Team achieved the target in the second over for the loss of just one wicket and qualified for the finals.

Divisional Sports Officer Lahore, Malik Waqar Ahmed; District Sports Officer Kasur , Akbar Murad and District Sports Officer Nankana Sahib, Maqbool Ahmed were also present in the ground to encourage the players.
