Lahore: The Government College University Lahore Horticulture Society Thursday held Dry Flower & Painting Competitions under the auspices of Punjab Youth Festival on the theme of promoting peace in the country. GCU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman was the Chief Guest at the competitions, which were adjudicated by GCU Fine Arts Department Chairperson Irfan Ullah Babar and Ms. Aamna Anwar.
About 45 teams including of GCU, Punjab University, University of Education, Queen Mary College and Naqsh College participated in the competitions held in three categories; Dry Flower, Shirt Painting and Poster Painting.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Rahman said terrorism was the biggest threat to Pakistan as economic prosperity could thrive only in the conditions of peace. He also appreciated the flower decoration by students, saying that flowers are the symbol of peace and they cast positive impact on thinking of a person. He lauded efforts the Punjab government for organising healthy competitions among youth through the Punjab Youth Festival. He said that this festival had encouraged the young generation of the province to exhibit their talent.
In Dry Flower Competition, GCU’s Waheed Hae clinched first prize. In female category of the same competition, PU’s Hareem Majeed and Saira Sheikh grabbed the first position.
In Shirt Painting Competition under the title of Roshan Pakistan, GCU’s Aysha Munawar & Nida Sajid picked first prize while PU’s Umar Bashir got second.
In Poster Competition held under the title of Peace and Society, GCU’s Mahmood & Shanzae Saleem got the first position while PU’s Mudassir Kazmi obtained second position.
Later, the vice chancellor presented shields to the winning teams.
