Foreign hand wants to disturb peace talks: Munawar Hasan

Lahore:  Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said JI-MunawwarHasanthat the government would have to step up the talks process in order to foil the designs of the foreign powers and their agents who could sabotage the dialogue through some major activity.

In a statement here on Thursday, he impressed upon the Prime Minister to convene a joint meeting of both the committees and the military high ups and work out a line of action to carry the talks to a successful end.

The JI Ameer said that the fresh wave of terrorism in the country including at Peshawar and Karachi was a clear evidence that the anti- talks forces had become more active. He said the security agencies and institutions must expose the group involved in the target killing of the police and rangers otherwise these killings would continue. He said the present wave of bloodletting in Karachi in spite of the targeted operation there had given rise to several questions. This bloodshed could not be adequately condemned and all those who were the victims of these incidents deserved full sympathies. He said the recurrence of such incidents could have been averted if the motives behind the murder of DSP,

Ch. Muhammad Aslam, had been brought to light. However, he said the current wave of terrorism in the port city under the garb of Taliban could be a pre=planned move to stop the talks as also the Karachi targeted operation. He said, the Taliban should point out the elements involved in such activities.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that a meeting of the Prime Minister and the army chief with the Taliban’s negotiation committee could solve many issues and help remove several obstacles. Primarily, he said, the responsibility to restore  peace lay on the shoulders of the Prime Minister and the army chief.

He said, the unnecessary debates on the media in this respect had only complicated the things instead of resolving issues. This was no service to the nation and the country, he added.

The JI chief said that the country’s constitution was an Islamic one and it simply needed implementation. He said all the rulers in the past had not enforced the constitution in its true spirit. For instance, in the May 2013 elections, the constitutional articles 62 and 63 were not complied with.  As a result, even people against whom serious cases of corruption had been registered, had reached the assemblies although they should have been behind the bars.
