Child marriages are resulting in various social problem

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Population Welfare, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz and Minister for Minorities Affairs and Human Rights, Khalil Tahir Sindhu have said that the rapidly increasing population of Pakistan is causing serious social issues. They were speaking on the topic of child marriage and problems of the youth at a function arranged by All Pakistan Women Association, Plan international at APWA headquarter, here today. Advocate Hina Hafeez Ullah and Surriya Jabeen were also included in the talk panel.

The Ministers said that promotion of education is essential for promoting awareness in the society. They said that illiteracy is the cause of various problems and the future generations will also have to face its consequences. Begum Zakia Shahnawaz and Khalil Tahir Sindhu said that the health problems and child marriages are resulting in various social problems. They said that marriage below the age of 18 is a crime.

They said that parents should also seek consent of their son and daughter for the marriage so that they should not face emotional, health and financial problems. They said that media, NGOs, civil society and all segments will have to play their role for dealing with this issue. They said that women are a precious asset and only a good and healthy mother can make a good home and healthy nation. They stressed upon effective legislation against child marriages so as to protect the life of the children.

Representative of Plan International Pakistan Iftikhar Mubarik highlighted the aims and objectives of the institution.
