Information technology can’t replace libraries’

Seminar Pic (1)Lahore: Libraries preserve cultural heritage and history of nations and information technology can’t replace them, said speakers while addressing a seminar on role of libraries in developing reading habits at the Government College University Lahore. Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Khaleeq-ur-Rahman chaired the one-day seminar addressed by GCU Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed, eminent writer Asghar Nadeem Syed and cartoonist Javaid Iqbal.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice Chancellor Prof Rahman said that in this cyber age, universities were needed to take special initiatives for retaining the interest of Pakistani youth in books. He lauded the role of GCU Library Society in marketing the university’s library resources and services. He also said for meaningful learning, one ought to part with one’s pre-conceived notions while approaching a source of knowledge such as books.

Chief Librarian Abdul Waheed also shared his thought-provoking ideas in the light of his profound experience in Librarianship. He called upon librarians to use conventional as well as unconventional methods for attracting youth towards libraries.
