Philosophy department celebrates golden jubilee

Lahore: The philosophy department of University of the Punjab, Lahore arranged a colorful evening on the eve of golden jubilee of the department at Punjab Institute of Language, Art & Culture (PILAC) Auditorium here today.

The function was largely attended by students, faculty members and alumni of the department including Chairman Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) Raja Anwar and others who shared memories of their stay in the university with the students and advised them to work hard for excelling in their practical life.

While addressing the function, PEF Chairman Raja Anwar said that the discipline of philosophy contributes in an indispensable way to the realization of goals that should be fundamental to any institution of higher learning: instilling habits of critical thinking in students; enhancing their reading, writing, and public speaking skills; transmitting cultural heritages to them; stimulating them to engage fundamental questions about reality, knowledge, and values.

Philosophy Department’s Chairperson Dr. Shagufta Begum, PILAC Director Dr. Sughra Sadaf and Prof. Dr. Shahid Gill also spoke on the occasion. Earlier, a philosophical mime was staged by the students besides holding of mushaira and a singing presentation.
