Lahore: The All Pakistan CNG Association (APCNGA) on Tuesday summoned emergency meeting of office bearers of the associations, CNG operators and transporters from all across the Pakistan to chalk out a strategy to get supply of natural gas to CNG outlets restored.
The step has been taken in the back drop of the sudden decision by the SNGPL to discontinue supply to CNG sector for indefinite period, said a statement issued here today.
Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha, Chairman Supreme Council APCNGA said that closure of the CNG sector in the name of gas load management is sheer violation of the constitution.
He said that CNG sector is being targeted intentionally which will trigger inflation, unemployment, and chaos.
The decision of the Supreme Court has proved injustice meted out to the CNG sector, he said, adding that the unilateral decision is based on mala fide intentions of the gas distribution company.
Bureaucracy is painting a wrong picture of the situation as gas is not as scarce in the country as claimed, said Paracha. He said that domestic consumers continue to get low pressure despite closure of the CNG which indicates that gas in being diverted to an influential sector in a secret manner.
We will never allow gas officials to push millions to unemployment, deprive majority of country’s population of affordable transportation and sink Rs 450 billion investments in the CNG sector over their lame excuses, he said.
The leader of the CNG sector said that closure of CNG will trigger demand for imported fuel which will drain dwindling forex reserves as no country is willing to provide oil to Pakistan on credit.
The Planning Commission in its latest report has opposed total closure of the CNG sector terming it against the national interests, he informed.
He said that other sectors have option of alternative fuels while the CNG sector lacks this options; China and India have been importing LNG to convert it into CNG but Pakistan which has abundant has reserves has been chocking this sector, he lamented.
He said that CNG owners, workers and transporters will not allow anyone to exploit them for their petty interests.
