Police registered case under ATA against Jamiat for lawlessness in PU

Jamiat protest in PU PULahore: Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan has said that the government of Punjab will show “zero tolerance” against the elements involved in lawlessness and goondaism in the universities premises and will establish rule of law and discipline at any cost because without curbing the in-disciplined component among so-called students the academic atmosphere cannot be restored.

He expressed these views while presiding over a meeting to chalk-out strategy for tackling the perpetuators of shameful act of physical assault with two faculty members of Punjab University Law College Quaid-e-Azam Campus Lahore. Vice Chancellor Punjab University Dr. Mujahid Kamran, President Academic Staff Union Prof. Ehsaan Sharif, all Deans, Heads of Departments and Principals attended the meeting. SSP Operations Lahore Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan and other relevant police officers were also present.

Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan informed the meeting that the Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif was so concerned about the sad incident at PU that he telephonically contacted me during the last night to get the latest progress in this regard.

The Provincial Education Minister directed the police officers to take legal action against all the culprits under anti-terrorist act as they are involved in spreading harassment and publically violating the peace and tranquility in the university campus, what may come. Prof. Naeem stated that my own student Malik Mubasher Hussain, a worker of Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) threatened to kill me along with Hafiz Wajid Ali, Nazim IJT, Punjab University Lahore. When I tried to make realize them that teachers are like your father, I was stunned to hear the reply that, “I would not hesitate to shoot my own father if the Nazim IJT orders to do so”. SSP Operations Lahore Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan gave an assurance to the academic staff union of Punjab University that the culprits will be taken to task according to the law of the land and FIRs under 7-ATA will be registered today against all the culprits regardless to the fact that they belong to which pressure group.

The Vice Chancellor nominated a focal person to keep liaison with the police in this connection and said that Prof. Hafiz Muhammad Rafiq from the Physics Department will be the focal person and will act with the consultation of Chairman Hall Council and the Chief Security Officer of Punjab University.
