Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said that the federal as well as the provincial governments were not holding local bodies’ elections in accordance with the constitution and were trying to find out a gradual escape from that.
Addressing a convention of the JI candidates of local bodies at Mansoroa, he said that the governments believed that after the departure of Chief Justice Iftekhar Muhammad Chaudhry from the scene, they would be free to do what they wanted but they were gravely mistaken as they won’t find an escape from the local bodies elections.
Liaqat Baloch said that the May elections were a fraud and an international conspiracy that had come to the fore. He said that during the last five months, the expectations of the masses had turned into disappointments. Life had become difficult for the common man due to the rising prices and lawlessness and unemployment, and it was time the rulers changed their policies and took solid steps to provide some relief to the people.
