Lahore: Canadian High Commissioner Mr. Greg Giokas called on Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, here today. Matters of mutual interest and promotion of bilateral relations were discussed during the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that present government is determined to meet the challenges being faced by the country and sincere steps are being taken for coping with energy crisis and other challenges. He said that special incentives are being provided to foreign investors for investment in energy and other sectors. He stressed the need for enhancing mutual trade between Pakistan and Canada.
The Chief Minister said that we want trade but not aid. He said that mutual exchange of trade delegations between both the countries should be enhanced. The Chief Minister while welcoming the support of Canadian government for granting status of GSP Plus to Pakistan said that after the status of GSP Plus, textile exports of Pakistan would increase substantially, which would result in creating new job opportunities and enhancing the pace of economic development.
Canadian High Commissioner Greg Giokas talking to the Chief Minister, said that the strong democratic system in Pakistan will help resolve public problems. He assured that cooperation with Pakistan would continue for the uplift of energy and other social sectors. He said that the economic condition of Pakistan will improve after granting the status of GSP Plus.
