Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has slated the Punjab government decision to withdraw the flat rate of electricity for agricultural tube wells and increase of the tariff by Rs. 2.50 per unit.
Talking to delegations at Mansoora on Wednesday, he said that the withdrawal of flat rate of electricity would automatically increase the cost of production of agricultural products, and add to the financial problems of both the growers and the general public. He said that the prices of vegetables were already sky high as the government was exporting onions, tomatoes and potatoes to India.
In such a situation, the order of the Punjab Chief Minister for holding Sasta Bazars to provide vegetables and food items to the people on low rates, was a joke. He said the Chief Minister had given these orders at time when the hoarders and profiteers had minted billions. He said that the official Price Control Committees were protecting the interest of the profiteers and the common man was compelled to buy food items on high prices as the PML(N) election promises to end the price hike had proved to be hollow.
