Southern loop of Lahore-Ring Road has vital importance

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that project of construction of southern loop of Lahore-Ring Road is of vital importance and government wants to initiate this project of public welfare as soon as possible. He said that this project will be completed in a transparent manner under public-private partnership within shortest possible time.

This was stated by him during a meeting with Director General Frontier Works Organization(FWO) Maj.Gen. Muhammad Afzal here today. Matters regarding construction of southern loop of Lahore-Ring Road were discussed on the occasion. Later, a high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister which was attended by Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Tanvir Aslam Malik, Vice Chairman LDA Khawaja Ahmad Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, President Bank of Punjab, Chairperson Ring Road Authority, senior officers and FWO authorities. Deputy Director General FWO, Brig. Asif Akhtar gave a detailed briefing regarding different aspects of the proposed project of southern loop of Lahore-Ring Road.

Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that infrastructure development is of paramount importance in the progress of the province and government has taken solid measures for this purpose during last five years. He said that timely and quality completion of development projects has been ensured and these projects can be compared with that of developed countries.

He said that speed and transparency are the hallmark of the Punjab government and all projects have been completed under this policy. He said that in future infrastructure projects will be initiated under public-private partnership model as it is essential for accelerating development process in the province. He said that southern loop project will not only bring about a development revolution in the province but also result in economic benefit to the people.

The Chief Minister directed to constitute two sub-committees headed by Chairman Planning & Development to review southern loop project from different angles. The sub-committees will submit their reports within ten days. He said that southern loop project will be unique with regard to quality of construction and transparency and every effort will be made to complete this project within minimum of time after settling necessary issues. He said that the project would cost billions of rupees and government intends to launch this project as soon as possible. He said that all out facilities will be extended for the completion of the project.

Director General FWO informed that various development projects have been completed in Lahore and Rawalpindi speedily and every effort will be made for the timely and quality completion of development projects in accordance with the vision of Chief Minister Punjab.
