Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here today to review law and order situation in the province and security measures for Muharram-ul-Haram. Provincial Ministers, Chief Secretary, Inspector General Police, Home Secretary and senior officers concerned were present.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that nothing can be more important than maintenance of law and order and no effort be spared for ensuring religious harmony, brotherhood and a peaceful atmosphere during Muharram-ul-Haram. He directed cabinet committee to hold meetings on daily basis and seek report about implementation of the security arrangements from all over the province. He said that elected representatives should play an active role for maintaining religious harmony and law and order in their respective areas. He said that a watchful eye be kept on suspects and additional force be deputed at important places. He said that senior police officials should personally undertake patrolling in their respective areas instead of sitting in their offices. He said that instructions regarding formation of a four-tier security cordon around majalis and processions should be implemented while proper lighting arrangements should also be made.
Issuing instructions for implementation of the foolproof security plan in the province, he directed that all members of National and Provincial Assembly should play an active role for security arrangements and promotion of religious harmony in their respective areas. He said that elected representatives should also work with police officers to maintain atmosphere of peace and tranquility in the province.
Inspector General Police and Secretary Home gave detailed briefings regarding security arrangements and law and order. They informed that a comprehensive security plan is being implemented in the province.
