Irrigation reformation project continuing with the cooperation of JICA

Lahore: Provincial Minister for Irrigation, Mian Yawar Zaman has said that irrigation reformation project continuing with the cooperation of Japanese Institution for International Development (JICA) will help further improve irrigation system of Punjab. He said that government is taking all out measures for ensuring provision of water to the cultivators of the province for their crops.

He stated this while talking to the members of the Japanese experts’ team visiting Pakistan for the final evaluation of the activities being carried out under SIAP with the cooperation of JICA today.

The Japanese experts’ delegation led by Dr. Nari Hidey Nagio today visited the head office of Punjab Irrigation and Drainage Authority (PIDA) where a briefing was given to the delegation regarding the performance and activities of farmers’ organizations being run under PIDA.

The briefing was attended by General Manager(TM) PIDA Afzal Anjum Toor, General Manager (Operation) Muhammad Younus Bhatti, Deputy General Manager (Social Mobilization) Shaiq Hussain Abidi, Deputy General Manager (Operation) Mian Abdul Rasheed, Project Director (SIAP) Ahmed Al-Haq Usmani and members of Japanese delegation including Norio Kiono, Mr. Takashi Fuji Saki, Mr. Tanaka, Mr. Takashei Sahiki and Mr. Shembaco Mekawa. On this occasion, the head of Japanese delegation gave briefing to PIDA officers regarding mechanism evolved for giving final shape to final evaluation of SIAP and apprised about the details of their field visit programme.

The delegation evinced keen interest in seeing the results of water saving technologies in the field, being introduced in area water boards of lower Chenab Canal (West) Circle and Bahawalnagar Canal Circle under the aegis of SIAP.
