Lahore: Chief Secretary Punjab Javed Aslam presided over a meeting to review flood arrangements in the province here on Tuesday at Civil Secretariat, Lahore. Senior Member Board of Revenue Nadeem Ashraf, Secretary Health Hassan Iqbal, Secretary Higher Education Farhan Aziz Khawaja, Secretary Schools Abdul Jabbar Shaheen, Secretary Local Government Jawwad Rafique Malik, Secretary Information Momin Agha and officials of PDMA and Rescue 1122 attended the meeting.
Chief Secretary stated that Punjab government will conduct a proper survey with the help of Geographic Information System (GIS) of the flood affected areas to know about the real damages. He said that World Food Programme (WFP) is collecting and analyzing all types of geographical data of the flood hit areas with the help of PDMA and Punjab government will make all out efforts to help the flood victims.
Chief Secretary was informed by the PDMA officials that water has started receding and there are bleak chances of rain in the coming days. PDMA officials briefed that the level of floodwater is decreasing day by day. Chief Secretary reiterated that the most important point is to provide relief and undertaken rescue activities. Chief Secretary further said that Divisional Commissioners, district administration and concerned institutions should remain fully alert to cope with any emergency. He said that relief activities and rehabilitation work of the calamity- hit people is in full swing.
Chief Secretary was informed that only 59-cases of snake-bite were reported in the flood hit areas. He was briefed that anti-malaria and snake-bite vaccine is available in all the flood affected areas. He said that district government and Health Department should make joint efforts to provide basic health facilities to the victims of flood at their camps through the mobile teams. He directed the Divisional Commissioners and district administrations of the concerned areas to provide clean drinking water to the people. He also stressed upon Commissioners and Regional Police Officers to maintain law and order in the flood affected areas. He said that concerned institutions should maintain a close contact with each other to control any untoward situation arising out of rains and potential floods.
He warned that no laxity or negligence would be tolerated in the relief and rehabilitation activities for the flood affectees. He said that government functionaries should make all out efforts for the permanent rehabilitation of the affected areas.
