712 villages are affected due to flood:Relief Commissioner Punjab

Lahore: Relief Commissioner Punjab Nadeem Ashraf has said that 712 villages in 14 tehsils of nine districts of the province were affected due to flood whereas crops on 252,912 acre land and 1968 houses were damaged partially while 2,277 houses were totally destroyed. As many as 1950 persons are taking shelter in 43 relief camps where essential items are being provided regularly. He said that after the flood, action will be taken against the district administration involved in setting up of illegal dwellings on the banks of rivers, streams and nullahs and not evacuating them which, despite clear cut instructions of the government and release of flood plan, did not take any action.

He was addressing a meeting held to review the relief activities here today. DG PDM, Director Operations, Relief Coordinator and other officers were present on the occasion.

Relief Commissioner told the meeting that on the direction of the Chief Minister Punjab, 250 tents, 42 thousand hampers, 7 lakh, 49 thousand kilogram rice, 3 lakh kg atta, 1 lakh 62 thousand 500 mineral water bottles, 6 thousand mosquito nets, 20 dewatering sets, 10 fiber boats, 35 life jackets and 2,942 carton dates had been sent for flood affectees of five districts Rajanpur, DG Khan, Narowal, Mianwali and Sialkot yesterday whereas 5,370 tents, 5,800 food hampers, 300,500 kg rice, 100,000 kg atta, 15,000 mineral water bottles, five dewatering sets, 10 fiber boats and 15 life jackets  had been sent for the flood affectees of  Muzaffargarh, Kasur, Jhang,  Chiniot, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Layyah, Multan, Nankana Sahib, Gujranwala and Hafizabad respectively.
