Lahore: The Punjab Governor, Chaudhary Muhammad Sarwar, called on the Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, at Mansoora on Tuesday and exchanged views with him on important national issues. The two leaders later talked to the media men. JI Naib Ameer, Ch. Aslam Saleemi, JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch and others were also present at the meeting which lasted for about half an hour. .
Talking to media men after the meeting, Syed Munawar Hasan stressed upon the government to immediately convene an APC on issues concerning national security, and added that delay in this respect would only increase unrest among the masses.
The JI Ameer said the government should seriously consider the talks offer by the Taliban. Unfortunately, he said, the present government was following the footprints of the previous regime and had not shown any seriousness on the national issues. The government should hold the APC after thorough preparation and with a clear agenda so that the issues confronting the country could be resolved.
Syed Munawar Hasan posed question that as the world community considered the drone attacks unlawful, why it did not raise voice for an end to these.
The Governor commended Jamaat e Islami’s services for Islam, the Muslim Ummah, and for the Pakistani nation, especially in the fields of welfare and relief.
He said he had visited Mansoora many a time in the past. He said, the JI’s stance on national issues had always been in harmony with the nation’s aspirations. He also appreciated the services of the Islamic Mission in UK and Europe for promoting brotherhood among the Pakistanis and the Muslims at large.
The Governor said that the drone attacks were decidedly unlawful and he had raised his voice against these even in the British parliament. However, he said the entire nation would have to make a joint struggle to meet the challenges facing the nation and the country and to restore peace, and said world at large should get the message that the Pakistani nation stands united.
He said that the government should avail the services of Syed Munawar Hasan who could play an effective role in removing the hurdles in the talks with the Taliban. He said next to the late Qazi Husain Ahmed, he had great regard for Syed Munawar Hasan as he believed that he could serve as a bridge to prepare an atmosphere of trust between the government and the Taliban.
He also paid rich homage to the former JI Ameer, Qazi Husain for his invaluable services fort the cause of Islam and the Muslim Ummah.
