CCPO urged to act against the responsible

Lahore: A considerable rise in the use of drugs at the Shah Jamal shrine and in the surrounding areas, have been witnessed after a four years stop in connivance of concerned police’ putting the residents in trouble.

 

Earlier people from around the world including Britain, Germany, Switzerland and numerous other countries used to come to the place finding it easy for them to use drugs.

 

The residents said that besides the shrine other nearby areas including Ichra Shadaman, Jamia Ashrafia, Ahata Mul Chand have also in the tight grips of drug runners.

 

They said that their new generation was being destroyed and no one is there to ask the culprits.

 

“People from around the world used to come to Shah Jamal Shrine to use drugs four years back and it is said that once BBC worked had commented that the shrine was topping in attracting drug users worldwide due to an easy access to hasish, chars, opium and other drugs,” Malik Ghafoor, living in the area said.

 

Residents and few wellwishers of the youth of the area launched an anti narcotics  long struggle to halt the heinous business of the drugs and got success but unfortunately the business again has increased manifolds with in the last three month which may attract youth to spoil themselves as in the past,” he said,

 

The residents that the peace of the surrounding areas may be affected due to the rising drug business round the shrine, especially on Thursday.

 

“Police is harboring the wicked business as police Mohafiz and other officials from the Ichra police station often seen selling drugs and supporting the drug traffickers,” a resident seeking anonymity said.

 

Though the selling and buying of drugs take place on all days however, on Thursday, it is gains momentum. Drug runners push the drugs before the eyes of the police fearlessly, he said.

 

He said that a few police official, who have been appointed at the concerned police station for the last many years, are involved in the business. The drugs the police station ceased occasionally is registered in lesser quantity to sell afterward in small quantities.

 

The residents including Abdul Hameed, Salim, Jafar, Numa and others urged the CM Punjab and CCPO to intervene to save the shrine and surrounding areas from once again becoming a safe heaven for the drug pushers and addicts.
