Lahore: The General Council meeting of Pakistan Weightlifting Federation held at a local hotel on elected new office bearers of the Federation for a period f next four years i.e 2013 to 2017. The election were supervised by Mr. Riazuddin Sheikh of Pakistan Olympic Association and Mr. Tahir Saeed, Director Pakistan Sports Board.
Nouman Idris Butt and Khizer Hayat Raja were elected President and General Secretary respectively of the Association with thumping majority. Lt. Col Hafiz Zafar Iqbal was elected Treasurer
Prof. Muhammad Azhar was elected Hony. Associate Secretary Mr. Muhammad Idrees Butt, Senior Vice President; Mr. Salahudin Malik, Vice President; Mr. Lala Assad Ullah, Vice President; Mr. Ayoub Khan Khilji, Vice President
Hafiza Iqra Arif was elected convener Women Wing while a seven-member women body was elected, one of them to be elected as member of the Executive Council of the Federation.
Representatives of Pakistan Army, Punjab Weightlifting Association, Baluchistan Weightlifting Association, Sindh Weightlifting Association, , KPK, FATA and Islamabad Weightlifting ASSOCIATIONS, Pakistan Sports Board and Pakistan Olympic Association also attended the General Council meeting.
The General Council in its recommendations vowed to implement in letter and spirit, the Sports Policy 2005 of Pakistan as per Supreme Court and Lahore High Court rulings.
It was also decided on the suggestion of a member to hold National Weightlifting Championship both Men and Women after Eid ul Fitre.
Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected President Dr. Nauman Idris Butt expressed his will to improve the standard of weightlifting to the highest level in Pakistan and to work for the promotion of this vital sports.
The Secretary General Khizer Hayat Raja paid tribute to the members for taking interest in the activities of the Federation and the confidence reposed on him. He wowed to observe the rules and by-laws of the Federation to raise the standard of weightlifting in Pakistan on most scientific lines being used by the developed countries all over the world.
The Council also decided to vehemently participate in a big way in the National Games being held from 28th June to 3rd July 2013. For this purpose, various teams were formed to participate in the Games.
