Lahore: Population Welfare Minister Punjab Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz has said that controlling the increasing population is utmost essential for the development of country’s economy.
She was addressing a departmental meeting during her visit to the office of Population Welfare Department, here today. Secretary Population Welfare Altaf Aizad Khan, Director General Population Welfare Qaisar Saleem, Additional Secretary Naeem-ud-Din Rathore and other officers attended the meeting. Secretary Altaf Aizad Khan gave a briefing in detail regarding departmental affairs.
Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz said that the problem of increasing population has become a global issue and due to the less resources, country’s problems increase. She said that following Indonesia, Turkey and Bangladesh, we can play an effective role with the cooperation of Ulema for creating awareness among the people about increasing population and its repercussions. She disclosed that awareness programme will be started from July 01, in connection with World Population Welfare Day and she herself will inform the people by visiting all districts of the province. Provincial Minister said that we will have to eliminate corruption jointly and deterrent punishment would be awarded to those involved in corruption according to the vision of the Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif.
Begum Zakiya Shahnawaz said that she will visit all centers and offices of Population Welfare Department and will review in detail provision of facilities and medicines there. She said that performance of all the staff will be monitored and action will be taken in case of any negligence.
