Scientific knowledge is necessary to live respectfully in the world:Dr. Mujahid Kamran

4th day-12-6-13_Dr MujahidLahore:  To lead an honourable and prosperous life in the world, it is imperative to acquire the scientific knowledge. Today only those nations are enjoying the fruits of development and power who have not only acquired the scientific knowledge, but also created new knowledge. These ideas and thoughts were expressed by Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran, Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, in his address as chief guest on the fourth day of the Ideological Summer School at the Aiwan-i-Karkunan-i-Tehreek-i-Pakistan, 100-Shahrah-i-Quaid-i-Azam, Lahore jointly organized by the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust and Pakistan Movement Workers Trust. Dr. Majid Nizami, a zealous worker of the Pakistan Movement, illustrious journalist and Chairman of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trsut, specially attended the function.

Those who attended the function included Professor Dr. Rafique Ahmad, Vice Chairman, Col. (r) Ikram Ullah Khan, Dr. Ajmal Niazi and Mr. Shahid Rasheed, Secretary of the Nazaria-i-Pakistan Trust. The programme commenced with the recitation of some verses from the Holy Quran, their translation into Urdu and English, a na’at and the national anthem.

Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran observed that the Pakistani nation needs power and money in order to gain a prominent position among the comity of the nations and both these requisites can only be attained through knowledge. The individuals in today’s developed societies have made hard work and labour a way of life and perform their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty. The seven and a half hundred verses of the Holy Quran exhort us to ponder over the mysteries of the universe. Even the very first verse deals with knowledge and the pen. The Europeans and American are far ahead of the Muslims as far as the scientific research is concerned. America’s stupendous progress in the fields of science and technology has enabled it to produce GDP 70 times that of Pakistan’s. He remarked that the Pakistani children are the most intelligent of all. Given the proper education and training, they can transform our country into the most developed one.

He exhorted them to pay special attention to their studies and do Ph.D, in the subject they had predilection for, because only a Ph.D can create new knowledge and make new inventions. In order to advance in life, a high character is a must. The teachers must concentrate on the character-building of the students. A session of questions and answers was also held and prizes were given away to those who had achieved success in different competition and activities.
