Aitchison fired staff protest against the administration

Lahore: Aitchison  staff has strongly protested against the firing of the teachers.In a press conference held at Lahore Press Club ,the fired staff has declared the termination an act of  maladministration.

According the dismissed teachers their  colleagues who have been working at Aitchison college for the last so many years and performing their duties with the best of their abilities and commitment.

They said they  all are educationists and don’t have any political motives and backgrounds nor do they have union or association amongst the faculty of Aitchison College. They wanted  to highlight and bring to the public at large the injustices and illegalities being done to the staff of Aitchison College by the so called management and board of governors. A very prestigious institute of the country i.e Aitchison College, more than 70 teachers has been fired without being heard, without any justification, show cause notice or inquiry.

It is first occasion in 126 years history of the college that such a large number of teachers illegally dismissed and they have been stopped to enter the gates of college by the management. It was very shocking to all the teachers to receive their illegal termination letters when they were approaching the college premises to perform their routine duties and they were forced by the college management to clear the premises there and then.

The temporary principal of the college have issued these termination letters even to those teachers who have been awarded “Best Teacher of the Year” awards including some very senior, efficient and distinguished faculty members of Aitchison College. Among those who have been terminated are some of the teachers who have been recently reinstated in service by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Choudhary. Despite of the fact that the matter is still pending before the Supreme Court of Pakistan in contempt application against the principal for not implementing the order of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The management of the college is creating harassment to the teachers and forcing them to vacate the residences in no time. Thus it is creating a lot of embarrassment for their families and innocent children. It is pertinent to note that such an illegal step has been taken by the college authorities when the political transition is taking place. We are given to understand that this large scale termination has been done in order to bring and accommodate their close relation and politically affiliated people to occupy the important places in the college. It is very alarming to note that just before the entry test for the new admission all senior teachers have been removed so that the college authorities can facilitate their close relatives and influential people an violation of the college admission policy.

This a huge test case and a challenge for the newly elected government to look into this serious issue where merit is being fluted and the integrity of the college management is not above board. There for it is strongly recommended that a judicial commission be constituted in order to look into these irregularities, illegalities and malmanagement of the college administration and such an illegal orders of large scale termination of the teachers be set a aside. And we also urge the high authorities for form a committee in order to monitor the transparency/ merit of the new admissions. We beg the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhary to take a sue motto action of this very sensitive issue where livelihood of so many families is at stake and we also beseech the Chief Justice to initiate contempt proceeding against the college management for not implementing his own orders of reinstating some of the teachers in the college.
