Role of media during election was commendable: Najam Sethi

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Najam Sethi has said that caretaker government of Punjab has successfully discharged the national responsibility of holding elections. He said that the role of media during election process was also commendable. He said that besides monitoring the election process, media has also been playing an effective role for highlighting the social problems.

The Chief Minister said that due to the role of media in the era of technology, world has become a global village due to which the entire world immediately became aware of any incident happened in any part of the world. He said that due to the effective role of media, distances have reduced.

He expressed these views while talking to the delegation of Lahore Editors Club which called on him at Chief Minister’s Secretariat today. Provincial Secretary Information Amjad Hussain was also present.

Talking to the delegation, Najam Sethi said that the team comprising impartial, hard working and able officers was selected for completing the election process in a peaceful and transparent manner and due to its untiring efforts, caretaker government succeeded in its mission. The Chief Minister said that as a result of efforts of provincial administration, peaceful atmosphere became available to the people for exercising their right of franchise.

Najam Sethi said that he and his team worked round the clock for ensuring holding of elections in a peaceful manner and maintaining law and order. He said that foolproof security was provided to the political leaders and rallies during election campaign. He said that the foreign observers have also lauded the arrangements made by the provincial government for holding elections.

The Chief Minister said that load-shedding has created numerous problems for the people. He said that poverty and unemployment have increased due to closure of industries. Najam Sethi said that although load-shedding was the federal issue yet we made sincere efforts for providing relief to the people. He said that newly elected government would have to work according to the expectations of the people for coping with the problem of load-shedding.

The Chief Minister said that solid measures were taken for providing best health facilities to the people. He said that whatever humanly possible was being done for providing treatment to the affected children and protecting them from measles. He said that life of every child is precious and government was taking precautionary measures on war-footing for protecting the children from measles. Najam Sethi said that law and order situation remained satisfactory in the Punjab province during the short period of caretaker government.

Members of the Lahore Editors Club talking on the occasion said that by the grace of Almighty Allah, caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi has succeeded in fulfilling the national responsibility of holding general elections in a transparent, impartial and peaceful manner, due to which the image of journalist community has also enhanced. They also thanked the Chief Minister for sparing time for meeting and discussing national and political issues.
