JI urges newly elected rulers to reject US pressure

Syed Munwar HasanLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan,
has impressed upon the newly elected rulers to go ahead with the gas pipeline project with Iran and also hand over Gowadar port to China ignoring opposition from US and India.

Addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque he counseled PML(N) president Mian Nawaz Sharif to make serious efforts for dialogue with the Taliban and expressed the hope the armed forces wont oppose the idea. It had become imperative to review the foreign policy and free it from outside pressures in the interest of country’s stability and peace and national sovereignty, he added. The Pakistani Taliban who had been angry because of Islamabad’s support to the US against Afghanistan Muslims, were our countrymen and Muslim brothers and if we brought them on the table, they would not hesitate, he added.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that suspending the Pak Iran gas pipeline project under US pressure was not in national interest as the energy crisis in the country had become serious. If the Muslim brotherly country was willing to help us in overcoming the energy shortage and was also ready to bear its expenses, it would be most unwise to scrap the project only to please Washington.

The JI Ameer said that the nation’s expression of confidence in Mian Nawaz Sharif also implied a heavy responsibility for the PML(N) leader who was expected to break the yoke of US slavery by abandoning Pervez Musharraf’s policies. He expressed the hope that Mian Sahib wont disappoint the nation.
