Elections 2013 was not fair, free and transparent:Munawar Hassan

Syed Munwar HasanLahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hassan, has said that the elections in most of the constituencies were engineered and the results were prepared already. “The people are on roads in protest against the polls results which are a surprise for the loser as well as the winner” he said, in an interview with a local Urdu weekly on Thursday.

He said, the media was repeatedly showing the great rush of irrelevant people at the polling stations in Karachi and Hyderabad, rubber stamping on the ballot papers in public, the holding of the Election staff as hostages, but the Chief Election Commissioner was still demanding evidence of rigging. He said there was no other way out except re- polling in the two Sindh cities, and warned that in case the MQM was again thrust on the two cities, the people there would rise against that.

Syed Munawar Hasan said it seemed that the establishment wanted to hand over the Karachi to the killers for suit its needs and to retain the role of king makers. He said that in spite of bad governance for the last five years, the PPP had not lost as much as was being predicted by the analysts, and same was the case with the PML(Q).

The JI Ameer said the people had great expectations from the Elections this time but irregularities became evident from the very beginning. In Karachi and Hyderabad, the polling had not begun till noon and the elections staff was abducted. But the Election
Commission acted as a deaf and dumb actor. It seemed the Election Commission had become a part of the establishment. He said all the parties except MQM had rejected the elections results in Karachi and the people of Karachi had their democratic right to protest over that.

Syed Munawar Hassan said, the PTI and the JI would form a corruption- free government in the Khyber P. He however said the major issues of the province were the drone attacks and US terrorism , military operations and abductions for ransom.

All these issues were related to the federal government.
He said the JI would try to develop consensus of all the political and religious parties on national issues so that the country could be put back on the road to progress and prosperity
