Murderous attack on a Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah was a criminal negligence: Najam Sethi

Najam SthiLahore: Punjab Chief Minister, Najam Sethi has said that the attack on Sarabjit Singh as a result of the jail staff negligence was extremely unfortunate but the murderous attack on a Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah, in the jail of Indian held Kashmir, was a criminal negligence. He said that Punjab government would take full care of heirs of the deceased.

The Chief Minister announced to provide job to the elder son of Sanaullah and bear the educational expenses of his younger son. He also announced to extend financial assistance of five lakh rupees in addition to a house to the heirs of Sanaullah.

In a statement, here today, Najam Sethi said that following the death of Indian prisoner, Indian officials were well aware of a reaction of similar nature and there was the dire need of special security and protective measures for the Pakistani prisoners but the lapse of arrangements towards the protection of the Pakistani prisoners by Indian authorities, was highly deplorable. Najam Sethi pointed out that Punjab government had immediately ordered a judicial inquiry into the matter of Sarabjit Singh’s death but Indian officials, instead of taking it as a positive gesture, created an atmosphere of counter attack by failing to make foolproof security arrangements for Pakistani prisoners, which was highly condemnable.

The Chief Minister said that there were no serious allegations against Pakistani prisoner, Sanaullah and he had mistakenly crossed the border. He said that the allegations of trivial nature against Sanaullah, should be taken in the same perspective. Najam Sethi said that the brutish action like torture on Sanaullah in Indian prison, had virtually tarnished the image of India at the international level.

Under the direction of the Chief Minister, Additional District Collector and Assistant Commissioner Sialkot today visited the house of Sanaullah and commiserated with the family of Sanaullah on behalf of Chief Minister, Punjab. DCO Sialkot has made arrangements officially for the convenience of those visiting the house of Sanaullah for expressing sympathies while district administration has also set up a special camp there.

Meanwhile, Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan and JI Secretary General, Liaqat Baloch,. have condemned the martyrdom of the Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah at Srinagar jail due to torture and said this had revealed India’s real face.

In a joint statement, they said that the murder of Sanaullah had shown Indian rulers’ hatred towards this country., adding that this should be an eye opener for the pro India, secular lobby in this country and those preaching for peace with India.

They also urged the care taker government to approach the international bodies for the security of the innocent Pakistanis lying in Indian jails, and to prevent the occurrences of such incidents in future.
