Tall claims of accountability prior to the elections has become a joke:Munawar Hassan

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the tall claims of accountability prior to the elections and the application of the articles 62 and 63 of the constitution had become a joke with the Election Commission allowing cheats to contest the polls.

Addressing the Friday congregation at the Mansoora mosque here, he said that the cancellation of Jamshed Dasti’s sentence within a couple of days after his conviction in the fake degree case, and allowing him to contest on both seats was a mockery of justice and raised doubts about the credibility of the elections itself.

The JI Ameer said that as and when, there was a strong demand for accountability and the enforcement of the constitution, the secular lobby which also included the present care takers, and in the media, became active and the cheats, dacoits and plunderers got free from the clutches of the law.

He made it clear that as long as the nation voted for the cheats and the corrupt people ignoring the honest and sincere people, it could not get rid of the problems of price spiral, load shedding, unemployment, nor a positive change was possible in the country.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that the rejection of the candidatures of cheats and those involved in fraud had sent a wave of hope among the people. However, the secular lobby in the country rose up in the defense of corruption and started crying hoarse against the application of the Islamic provisions of articles 62 and 63. He said it was the responsibility of the Election Commission and the judiciary not to be cowed down by the secular lobby and to go ahead with the implement the constitution without fear.

The JI Ameer said that corruption in the society had always existed but it had crossed all limits during the Zardari regime. The masses were deprived of the last morsel of food due to the price hike, load shedding and unemployment.

He however said that the people could avenge themselves of the deprivations of the last sixty five years by voting for the honest and sincere people. The country was full of resources but the dacoits and plunderers had taken it as hostage and were sacrificing the national interests to please Washington and to built their personal bank accounts.
