Police honestly perform its duty for fair and free elections:Tariq Pervaiz

Lahore: Caretaker Provincial Minister for Home and Prisons Tariq Pervaiz has said that a comprehensive strategy of security with regard to holding of elections and maintaining law and order throughout the province should be evolved. He directed police officers to perform their duties honestly and impartially for holding free and fair elections.

He expressed these views while presiding over a high level meeting at Civil Secretariat, today. Secretary Home Shahid Khan, Joint Provincial Election Commissioner Punjab, DIG Operations, DIG Investigation and concerned officers of security agencies attended the meeting.

Tariq Pervaiz said that strict security arrangements should be made on sensitive polling stations by categorizing district, tehsil and constituencies and the code of conduct of Election Commission be implemented strictly. He further directed that strict legal action should be taken against those violating code of conduct. He directed police officers to take action against the violators jointly with the monitoring teams of Election Commission in collaboration with District Returning Officer and District Government. Tariq Pervaiz asked police officers to set up special control rooms so that the notice of the complaints being made on daily basis should be taken.

Secretary Home Shahid Khan gave a detailed briefing about security situation. He directed the officers that security of sensitive polling stations, election staff and public meetings and processions of elections should be ensured. He informed that a special plan with regard to security of elections is being evolved and instructions will soon be issued to the officers deputed throughout the province in this regard.
