Aurat Foundation Lahore launches GEM Cell to monitor 2013 general election

Lahore: Aurat Foundation Lahore has launched Provincial General Election Monitoring (GEM) Cell to monitor 2013 general election in Pakistan from a gender perspective.

The aim of GEM Cell is to enhance women’s political participation during election and in post-election period. Under this initiative a team of GEM observers would set to monitor the electoral process from gender dimension.

The Cell envisages to observe and provide necessary assistance to women voters and women candidates. Management of polling process by female polling staff would be focused to formulate suggestions to improve the system.

A network of coordinators in 36 districts of the Punjab has been geared up to provide information and gender assistance in this behalf.
