JI protests over heavy levy on advertisement campaign

Lahore: Jamaat e Islami’s Deputy Secretary General, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, a candidate from NA 121, has strongly protested over the heavy charges by the City District Government on the election campaign of the candidates and termed it a conspiracy by the bureaucracy.

In a letter to the care taker Chief Minister, Punjab on Sunday, he said it was ridiculous that the district government would be charging Rs. 500 for each banner or flex put up by a candidate on the polls or at cross roads, as this was totally unjustified for a brief period of six weeks, especially in view of the total expenditures allowed for election campaign as 1.5 million.

Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha demanded withdrawal of the levy and for taking to task the officers who seemed to be paving the way for only the wealthy people to contest the elections.
