Lahore: Punjab caretaker Chief Minister and prominent journalist Najam Sethi called on Pakistan Muslim League President Senator Ch Shujat Hussain and senior central leader Ch Parvez Elahi at their residence here today.
During the meeting, which lasted for about an hour and in which Moonis Elahi was also present, views were exchanged regarding situation in Punjab.
Ch Shujat Hussain and Ch Parvez Elahi felicitated caretaker Chief Minister Najam Sethi and assured him of their full cooperation. They said for transparent elections, entire administration of Punjab will have to be changed.
The caretaker Chief Minister assured them that general elections in Punjab will be free, fair and impartial and in this regard, all political parties will be taken into confidence.
PML leaders expressed the hope that the parties planning for rigging in Punjab will not be allowed to succeed in their nefarious objective.
Talking to media afterwards, Ch Parvez Elahi said that present administration is not impartial, as such independent and autonomous administration should be brought in so that holding of free, fair and transparent elections can be ensured. He said we have told the caretaker Chief Minister that entire govt machinery of Punjab will have to be changed, N-League has recruited and posted favourite persons in the administration in Punjab for rigging in the elections, we want that the caretaker Chief Minister should post officers of his choice, very strict measures will have to be taken for orderly and transparent elections.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that now the voter has got the opportunity to exercise his right of vote with due caution and thinking, people will have to see which govt had served the masses in the province and which had deceived them.
In reply to a question, Ch Parvez Elahi said that N-League had not implemented what it had promised in its manifesto, non-holding of local bodies election is an example of that whereas we had presented a model of welfare state. He said that PML will give surprise in the general elections. Replying to another question, Ch Parvez Elahi said that lot can be done in two months, N-League govt did nothing in the fields of health, education and public service in five years.
