Sharif Medical City celebrates World Kidney Day-2013

Lahore: World Kidney Day-2013 was celebrated at Sharif Medical City Hospital Lahore today. On this occasion, free medical screening camp was established in Medical Out Patient Department. More than 500 patients consulted specialist doctors of nephrology and urology.

They were examined free of cost for weight, blood pressure and blood sugar. Later in the public seminar, Prof. Mehmood Ali Malik Physician, Prof. Tahir Shafi Nephrologist and Dr. Rafique Zaki, Urology and Renal Transplant Surgeon addressed the participants. They explained that the main causes of kidney failure are hypertension and diabetes mellitus. People can stop injury to kidneys by adopting a healthy lifestyle and controlling their blood pressure and blood sugar. Theme of World Kidney Day is “Kidney for Life—Stop Kidney Attack”.

World Kidney Day is a global health awareness campaign focusing on the importance of kidneys, reducing the frequency and impact of kidney diseases and its associated health problems worldwide. The day is celebrated by joint initiative of International Society of Nephrology and International Federation of Kidney Foundations. Motions on this occasion are a sign of its deep belief in creating and spreading awareness regarding chronic renal diseases which are common, silent and dangerous but easy to detect and treat at early stages.
