Lahore: Secretary Industries, Commerce and Investment Punjab Dr. Shujaat Ali has said that the economy of the country can be further strengthened by creating awareness among public and private sectors about intellectual property rights and institutional and legal arrangements for their enforcement for creating job opportunities, investment in the country and promotion of innovation in Pakistan.
He expressed these views while addressing a training workshop on Trade Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights, in Lahore.
The workshop was organized in collaboration with Pakistan Institute of Trade and Development (PITAD), Industries, Commerce and Investment, Government of the Punjab and World Trade Institute. Dr. Shujaat Ali said that there is a need of modern reforms related to trade and creating new opportunities of investment for local and foreign investors for bringing Pakistan at par with the developed countries. He also threw light on the steps taken in private sector for creating awareness about intellectual property rights and GI registration.
Director General PITAD, Tahir Maqsood thanked International Trade Centre for its services particularly laws relating to trade, intellectual property rights and cooperation in training and research on other issues. He said that more than 13 training modules have been started in various sectors with the cooperation of International Trade Centre.
Master Trainer of Pakistan Trade Development Authority Muhammad Aslam and Dr. Henning Gross Ruse Khan from World Trade Institute gave briefing to the participants through video conference. The training workshop was aimed at creating awareness among officers of federal and provincial governments about intellectual property rights and other laws relating to trade so that they could enhance their professional abilities and play their full role in policy making. Government officers of federal and provincial governments, researchers and NGOs attended the workshop.
Later, certificates were also distributed among participants. Muhammad Awais Khan Programme Officer, Project Director Nasir Rafique and other officers were also present on the occasion.
