Metro bus project is historic plan:Shahbaz Sharif

Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said metro bus project is historic in terms of courage and determination. He said this modern traveling facility has entirely changed the archaic culture of public transport, while the number of passengers, traveling on metro buses, have crossed over more than one lakh 25 thousand. He said those who are raising hue and cry over metro bus project are themselves steeped in corruption. He said the henchmen of dictator Musharraf and Zardari are unable to digest the success of this great project, which has been launched for the convenience of the people. He said, if Allah Almighty gave another opportunity to serve, projects like metro bus service would also be introduced in other big cities.

The Chief Minister was presiding over third meeting of Metro Bus Authority at Model Town, today. Special Assistant Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Chairman Lahore Transport Company Khawaja Ahmed Hasaan, Chairman Planning & Development, Secretaries Law, Finance and Transport, Managing Director Punjab Metro Bus Authority were present on the occasion. During the meeting approval was given for import of more buses from Turkey.

Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that an impossible task has been made possible, due to grace of Allah Almighty and untiring efforts, within just 11 months. He said this project has become role model for the whole world, as no mega project has been completed within such a short time. He said, if intentions are right and determination is strong then even difficult objectives can easily be achieved. He said people have appreciated that there is such a government which is working for their progress and welfare with sincere intentions. He said traveling in metro bus by citizens in such a large number reflects their vigorous trust over the project of Punjab government.

He said there is no need to get performance certificate from anyone, as the complete trust of the people is true fruit of our hard work. He said that those elements, who see their future darkening, have now become despondent and are illogically criticizing metro bus system, but their past and present is so checkered that people are not prepared to trust them. He said great metro bus project is a living proof of complete transparency, and no one can raise an accusing finger over our development projects. He said more buses are being imported from Turkey, in view of tremendous increase in number of travelers on metro buses.

He directed that the process of importing additional buses from Turkey should be further expedited, alongwith augmenting arrangements for provision of facilities to passengers. During the meeting, Chief Minister was given detailed briefing on operational matters of metro bus system.
