Wave of terrorism only to derail the country from democracy:Munawar Hassan

Syed Munawar HassanLahore: Ameer Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has said that the fresh and a horrible wave of terrorism in the country was an indication that the forces within the country and abroad were trying hard to derail the country from the path of democracy and to putt off the polls.

He said the situation called for a complete unity among all political and religious parties on one point agenda to foil the conspiracies to delay the elections.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that the MQM decision to sit on the opposition benches was a move enjoying President Zardari’s blessing, and a trick to have care taker set up of its choice.
In a statement here on Monday, he said that after the Quetta carnage on January 10, it was the responsibility of the security agencies not only to track down the culprits but also to take measure to prevent recurrence of such incidents. He said, the failure of the agencies in this task provided the anti state elements another opportunity to strike again.

The JI Ameer said that the incidents of target killings and setting ablaze of petrol pumps, markets and vehicles in Karachi were also aimed at spreading panic and harassment and to sabotage the elections because the ruling junta was terribly upset over the idea of a defeat in elections followed by accountability for their corruption running into billions.

He said that the MQM had announced to part ways with the government with the connivance of President Zardari in order to have an interim set up in Sindh of its choice.
The propaganda being made by the MQM on this score was only to befool the masses in Karachi. It was quite strange, he said the MQM that had been enjoying power for the last five years, was suddenly concerned over the law and order in the Sindh. He said the MQM’s propaganda to sit in the opposition was an eye wash as an MQM man was still holding the office of the Sindh Governor. He said if President Zardari sincerely wanted peace in Karachi, he should ask the Sindh Governor to resign.

The JI Ameer said that in case care taker government was made on MQM’s dictation, the real opposition parties won’t accept the election results.

He stressed upon the Election Commission to take notice of the large scale postings and transfers of government officials in Karachi, and stop it.

Syed Munawar Hasan also expressed deep concern over the access given to the MQM on the Election Call Centre with the NADRA’s connivance. He said this facility had been provided only to the MQM. He asked how the MQM was given access to such a sensitive data while the Election Commission was not ready to place the voters lists on the web site on the ground that this could be a security risk and against the national interest.
