Lahore: Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has strongly condemned the bill moved by a National Assembly Standing Committee to do away with the autonomy of the Higher Education Commission, and termed it an attack on education by the fake degree holders controlling the education sector.
He expressed complete solidarity with the heads of the government universities, the Academic Staff Associations and universities students on the issue and said the JI would fully support their struggle against the government move.
Liaqat Baloch said that the PPP and its allies had been disgracing the constitutional and national institutions throughout their term most shamelessly. He said the only fault of the HEC was that it had exposed the parliamentarians holding fake degrees to the nation. He said while the nation lauded this policy of the HEC, the ruling alliance could not digest it and decided to punish the HEC for that. The PPP government had stopped the funds meant for the boys and girls students acquiring higher education in national and foreign universities, thus showing its enmity towards education. It had been proved once again that no good was expected from the present rulers.
Liaqat Baloch said that The Pakistanis were among the most intelligent nations in the world but higher education in the country had been limited and also most expensive. The youth which comprised about 60 pr cent of the population, but doors of higher education were closed to them which was a tragedy.
