Lahore: In order to ensure prompt justice to the public, there is a dire need to continue close liaison on regular basis between the lawyers and the police since both are important parts of the criminal justice system. The safety of the lawyers in the court premises is also responsibility of the police.
Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Khan Baig expressed these views during his meeting with a nine-member delegation of the Lahore Bar Association at the Central Police Office today.
President Lahore Bar Association Nauman Qureshi, Senior Vice President Mian Shahzad Hassan, Vice President Chaudhry Touqeer Sadiq, Secretary General Kamran Mughal, Secretary Muhammad Nadeem, and Joint Secretary Sheikh Kashif Ali were resent in the meeting besides others. DIG (Operations) Punjab Sohail Ahmed Khan and PSO to IGP Muhammad Ali Nakokar were also present on this occasion.
The delegation informed the IGP about the security related problems being faced by them in the courts.
The IGP assured the delegation that the police would provide security to the lawyers and the witnesses in the court premises besides deployment of plainclothesmen in the parking areas around the courts.
The IGP further said that mutual cooperation between the police and the lawyers help ensure the provision of justice.
On the request of the lawyers regarding the mobile vehicle at the courts for the issuance of leaner driving licenses, the IGP said that the department would seriously consider their proposal and would also ensure implementation if possible.
