Lahore: Secretary Social Welfare Malik Tahir Sarfraz Awan has said that Social Welfare Department is playing an important and commendable role in serving to humanity. He said this during his visit to a social welfare institution at Central Jail Gujranwala today. He said that besides X-Ray and Roti plants, Social Welfare Department has also set up a vocational training centre with the assistance of philanthropists and Prisons Department so that the male and female prisoners after getting training of various skills could become useful citizens on their release.
District Officer Lahore Sheikh Tanvir Ahmed informed the Secretary Social Welfare that Social Welfare Department with the financial assistance of donor agencies, besides providing 1100 blankets to the prisoners, has also made payment of Rs. 60 lakh for the release of prisoners involved in minor crimes. He further told that Social Welfare Department is also providing text books to the children in addition to fans, exhaust fans and coolers in jails.
Later, Secretary Social Welfare Malik Tahir Sarfraz Awan also visited District Hospital Gujranwala where Social Welfare Department has provided nine dialysis machines for diabetes patients. Malik Tahir Awan also appreciated various skills being provided by Sanatzar. He also visited Dar-ul-Amaan and reviewed in detail the facilities being provided there. Later, Secretary Social Welfare also presided over a meeting of District Social Welfare Officers of six districts of Lahore division. He directed the officers to perform their duties with devotion and dedication. He also appreciated the performance of officers and officials.
