Public sector corruption, a matter of shame:Syed Munawar Hassan

Lahore: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Syed Munawar Hasan, has termed the reports about the rampant corruption in the public sector as eye opener and a matter of shame for the rulers and the entire nation.

In a press statement here on Friday, he said that with the corruption ranging up Rs.7 billion daily at the government level, there could never be any economic progress and the poor were fated to go without basic facilities.

The JI Ameer said that according to media reports, Pakistan which was ranked 41 on the most corrupt countries in the past, had now been adjudged as at No. 33. This proved that the Zardari government had broken all records of corruption. Zardari and his government ministers had plundered the national wealth during the last five years rule while his coalition partners too not missed the opportunity in this respect. The so called people’s government had even snatched the last morsel of food from the people. The prices of POL, electricity and gas were sky rocketing whereas facilities of education, health and employment remained a dream for the common man.

Syed Munawar Hasan said that massive corruption in the government had virtually ruined major public institutions including the PIA, OGDC, WAPDA, Railways, Steel Mills.
He further said that the ruling alliance was fully involved in the target killings and extortion in Karachi because of which the people of Karachi lived under constant fear and were shifting their families and capital abroad.
