Bar and Bench are two wheels of a chariot: Umar Ata Bandial

Lahore: Chief Justice of Lahore High Court, Justice Umar Ata Bandial has underlined the need for exhaustive training for judges and lawyers in order to deliver quality judgments for providing relief to the litigant public,the real stakeholders of the system of justice.

Chief Justice said this in his inaugural address at the 2-day workshop on legal education in collaboration with .Chief Justice said that Bar and Bench were two wheels of a chariot and their cooperation was vital for the provision of justice.

Chief Justice expressed the resolve to fortify the functioning of district courts for delivering comprehensive judgments so that litigants do not have the need to approach the higher courts.

He termed the lawyers’ community of Pakistan a unique and different from other parts of the world. In Pakistan lawyers are an agent of change as they have rendered valuable services for strengthening the judiciary and rule of law in the country. Advocates are not a political party but professional bodies committed to upholding the constitution and provision of justice to the aggrieved parties. Chief Justice appreciated the decision of sourcing out entry test to the NTS for new entrants in the legal profession. Chief Justice also lauded the Punjab Judicial Academy for providing meaningful training to the judges and young lawyers.

Chief Justice welcomed the gesture of senior lawyers for providing helping hand to the younger lot as chambers of senior advocates are good nurseries for them. Revival and restoration of previous practice of providing respect and honour to the senior lawyers also by younger ones will go a long way in the dispensation of justice and strengthening the system of justice.

Chairman Education Committee Azam Nazir Tarar, Vice-Chairman Pakistan Bar Council Akhtar Hussain and Mr.Kashif Akram Noon, National Program Manager also addressed threw light on the legal empowerment of the poor(LEP). Legal luminaries from across the country including presidents Supreme Court Bar Association, Lahore High Court Bar Association as well as office bearers of Pakistan Bar Council and Punjab Bar Council also graced the occasion.
