Lahore: The president GCDA ( General Cadre Doctors association) Dr Masood Akhtar Sheikh while addressing the press conference along with Senator Ishhaq Dar, senator Pervaiz Rasheed, Khawja Salman Rafique, MNA Mr. Zahid hamid, Secretary health Punjab and Advocate General, in Chief Minister house in connection with announcement of service structure expressed that that agreeing upon the service structure will be the first step towards improvement in health delivery system, more heavy work will now start with its implementation, and sticking to the time line meant for different steps and proposals.
He declared this revised service structure as a gift from Punjab governments to its doctors and added that it will help to prevent brain drain from country. He said that as a consequence of this revised service structure, for the first time more than thousand of general cadre doctors will be promoted from grade 18 to 19, and almost all doctors working in grade 17 will be promoted to grade 18, while more than 200 doctors will be promoted to grade 20. Dr Masood sheikh added that this is the first time in medical history that a trans-cadre posting of doctors has been made possible. He explained that now the window has opened where by 25 % seats of the medical teachers and 50 % seats of specialist will be given to general cadre doctors already serving the poor patients.
He added the salient points included acknowledgements of postgraduate qualification as MPhil allowances while remaining in general cadre. Dr Masood sheikh said that the general cadre doctors association (GCDA ) along with other organization has travelled a marathon to reach at some workable points and some of the meetings lasted for 14-16 hours with the health officials and the other political persons may have broken all world records for such type of negotiation. Following the press conference an emergent provincial council meeting of GCDA was held and admired that the decision is doctors friendly and will help to dispel the disparities amongst the service structure. GCDA General Secretary Dr Rana Rafiq, Dr Asad Abbas Shah, Dr Asim Farooqui, Dr Arif Iftikhar, Dr Ejaz Warriach, Dr Saif Ur Dr Shaukat, Dr. Aslam Hameed, Dr Farooq, Dr Shahid, Dr Amir , Dr M Arif, Dr Malik Riaz, Dr Zulfiqar, Dr Nasrullah, Dr Gulzar, Dr Abdul Rehman, Dr Naeem, Dr Adil, Dr Liaqat, Dr Ayub, along with representative from different district attended the meeting.
