Lahore: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has directed further acceleration of pace of work on Metro Bus Project, and said that completion of the development work in accordance with the timeline must be ensured. He said all concerned departments should evolve a coordinated strategy in this regard and warned that no delay in the execution of the project would be tolerated. Expressing extreme annoyance over slow pace of work by a few institutions, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif warned that all impediments in completion of the project must immediately be removed.
The Chief Minister was presiding over a high level meeting to review work on Metro Bus Project at Chief Minister’s Secretariat, here today. Chairman Lahore Transport Company Kh. Ahmed Hasaan, Member Provincial Assembly Mehr Ishtiaq Ahmed, Project Director PRTB Sibtain Fazal-e-Haleem, Commissioner Lahore Division, Director General LDA, Chief Traffic Officer besides officers of the concerned departments were present. Addressing the meeting, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that provision of facilities to the masses is the objective of Metro Bus Project and utmost efforts should be made during execution of the project that no botheration is caused to citizens. He said although city traffic police has made good arrangements at all routes, however alternative traffic arrangements should be made at the places about which public complaints have been received. He said all possible steps should be taken to facilitate the people at the route. He directed that a public awareness campaign should be launched, in addition to shifting the poles of streetlights at the earliest. The Chief Minister directed that parking spaces should be made beside Metro Bus stations. He also issued instructions to the concerned authorities regarding installation of escalators at the stations, alongwith completion of the remaining development work expeditiously. The Chief Minister ordered foolproof security arrangements at the whole route of Metro Bus Service and said that the project would be completed soon. He emphasized that construction material should be transferred to the site expeditiously. He directed DG Parks and Horticulture to undertake beautiful landscaping along the route of the Metro Bus in accordance with the policy of Punjab government. He further ordered to devise a strategy for outsourcing Metro Bus stations. Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif said that a control room is being set up for Metro Bus Service from where this latest transport system of the world would be controlled. He said that every moment is precious with regard to completion of Metro Bus Project and directed that a strategy should be evolved to complete all development work relating to the Metro Bus Project at the earliest.
During the meeting, Chief Minister was given a detailed briefing by the Project Director and DG LDA about the pace of execution of Metro Bus Project.
