Ombudsman Punjab orders to pay dues to a widow of an officer

Lahore: Ombudsman Punjab, Khalid Mehmood has ordered to immediately pay all dues of promotion to a widow of an officer who was promoted 13 years ago and died during service.

According to details, Shabana Zia, widow of Dr. Asghar Ali, resident of Toba Tek Singh, gave an application to Ombudsman Punjab Khalid Mehmood that her husband was an officer in Local Government department and died during service in 2009. Local Government department had promoted him in grade-18 from 1996 but the deceased had been waiting to receive the dues of his promotion for 13 years.

The widow of the deceased contacted district accounts officer TT Singh but he was of the view that a government employee can himself contact for amended pay slip but her widow has no right of it. Ombudsman Punjab directed consultant Mohtasib office Wazir Ahmad Qureshi to probe into the matter. Wazir Ahmad Qureshi while rejecting the stance of district accounts officer TT Singh declared that the heirs of the deceased government employees can give applications for the payment of dues. Ombudsman while agreeing with the opinion of Wazir Ahmad Qureshi, has ordered district accounts officer TT Singh to issue the amended pay slip of deceased government officer in grade 18 from 1996 and immediately pay all dues from 1996 till date.
