Lahore: Provincial Minister for Agriculture Malik Ahmed Ali has directed of quality and high-yielding cotton seeds on priority basis, so that these seeds could be provided to the farmers for increasing cotton production.
He gave these instructions while presiding over a high-level meeting of Punjab Seed Corporation, Piruwal (Khanewal), held in connection with seed production and procurement, during which MD Punjab Seed Corporation, Sher Alam Mahsood, Deputy Managing Director Dr. Syed Ajmal Haider, DG Research & Pest Warning Dr. Noor ul Islam, DG Agriculture Extension Research Dr. Anjum Ali, Director Cotton Dr. Abid Mahmood, Regional Director Federal Seed Ch. Muhammad Tariq, Incharge Cotton Research Station Multan Dr. Sagheer Ahmed, Joint Director Farms Ch. Abdul Ghaffar, representatives of farming community Syed Sajid Mehdi Shah, Nawab Farhat Ullah Khan, Rana Iftikhar Ahmed, Nisar Akbar and others were also present.
Provincial Minister said that dealership network is being further enhanced to ensure provision of high-yield seeds to the wheat growers at the town level. He said that Punjab government would grant approval to amendments in Fertilizers, Pesticides and Seeds Act in order to ensure quality fertilizers, pesticides and seeds to the farmers. He directed inspectors of Agriculture Department to launch a vigorous campaign for ensuring pure fertilizers and pesticides to the farmers.
The meeting was informed that Punjab Seed Corporation would purchase 72 thousands maund seed cotton from registered farmers for preparation of more than 75% of quality cotton seed, while the growers would be granted Rs.400/-per maund premium for the purchase of seed cotton, while 10 lakh bags of seeds would be prepared for wheat sowing seed. Provincial Minister directed officers of Punjab Seed Corporation to ensure provision of good and quality seeds, in order to achieve greater production of cotton and wheat in the province.
