Lahore: Pakistan Muslim League senior central leader and Deputy Prime Minister Ch Parvez Elahi has announced that all Federal Govt employees in grade 1 to 16 would be provided motor cycles, refrigerators, washing machines, TV sets, micro ovens etc from the Utility Stores on easy installments than the market.
He approved the plan and made the announcement during visit to the Utility Stores Corporation Headquarters in Islamabad today.
He congratulated the administration and the staff of the Utility Stores for successfully providing the Ramzan Relief Package to the people and appreciated the untiring hard work and dedication of the employees during holy month of Ramzan ul Mubarak.
Utility Stores Corporation Managing Director Major General (retd) Muhammad Farooq briefed the Deputy Prime Minister about the performance of the Utility Stores during Ramzan ul Mubarak and the future plans. He also thanked the Deputy Prime Minister on behalf of all employees for payment of one month salary as bonus.
Ch Parvez Elahi was informed that this year the Utility Stores sales during holy month of fasting had reached record figures of Rs 22. 16 billion which was Rs 7. 00 billion more than the last year and Rs 9. 00 billion more than 2010.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that continuous increase in the sale of the Utility Stores during the last two years reflected the trust and confidence of the people on our decisions. He said that basic objective of providing quality items at reasonable rates to the consumers was quite successfully achieved. He said that transparency and good quality was ensured as a result of which the consumers are visiting the Utility Stores in growing number with every passing day for purchasing their required items from there.
The Deputy Prime Minister was informed that total strength of the Federal Government employees is 4 lakhs 47 thousand including 3 lakhs 85 thousand are in grades 1 to 6 and 42 thousand are in grades 7 to 16. All these employees would benefit from the new scheme introduced by the Utility Stores.
Ch Parvez Elahi said that he is fully aware of the problems of the employees adding that we have always framed policies to benefit the people with low income. He said the new scheme would help the federal employees to improve and better their life style.
He also reviewed the progress regarding opening of 1000 new Utility Stores and establishing 30 new ware houses and directed the administration to implement the plan speedily.
Ch Parvez Elahi further said that the Industries Ministry is taking steps to computerize utility stores network throughout the country and for this purpose, services of the experts would be acquired shortly. He said computerization would further increase transparency in the affairs of the Utility Stores and also help in ensuring timely supply of items to the Utility Stores in the far flung areas.
