Lahore: Acting US Ambassador in Pakistan called on former Prime Minister and President PML-N, Muhammad Nawaz Sharif today at latter’s residence at Raiwind. US Counsel General in Lahore, Ms. Nina Fite also accompanied the acting Ambassador during this visit. Chief Minister, Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Opposition Leader in Senate, Muhammad Ishaq Dar were also present at the occasion. During the meeting, geo-political situation of the region was discussed in detail. Nawaz Sharif said that drone strikes are violating the sovereignty and independence of Pakistan which the US needs to respect. He further said that both sides should try to understand ground realities and requirements of each other. Nawaz Sharif emphasized the need to strengthen the bilateral relations between the two countries. Nawaz Sharif also stressed the need for an early and mutually satisfactory resolution of the Dr Afia Siddiqi case, especially as this would remove an irritant and would be a good headway towards strengthening the Pak-US relations.
The Acting Ambassador appreciated the efforts of Nawaz Sharif in taking the lead to initiate confidence-building measures to normalize Pakistan-India relations.
