Subsidized items provide relief to masses:Secretary Industries Punjab

Lahore: Secretary Industries Punjab, Dr Sujaat Ali has said that the subsidy of four billion rupees given by the government on essential commodities in holy month of Ramzan has provided relief to the citizens and edibles are available in abundance in Ramzan Bazaars and fair price shops.

This was stated by him while presiding over a meeting held to review the measures taken for providing essential items to consumers in the holy month of Ramzan, here today. Officers of food, industries, agriculture, market committees and other concerned departments were also present on this occasion. Secretary Industries said that prices of essential items have stabilized due to the measures taken by the government. He said that 144236 bags of 10 kg atta were sent to 337 Ramzan bazaars set up all over the province out of which 114605 atta bags were sold. He further disclosed that 172076 fasting people availed the facility of free Iftari fast at 1612 Dasterkhawans set up in Punjab.

The meeting was further informed that 1312 Price Control Magistrates conducted 1099 raids in the Ramzan Bazaars and markets of their respective areas and registered cases against 15 shopkeepers in the concerned police stations for overcharging. Similarly, a fine of Rs. 6 lakh 50 thousand was recovered from 656 shopkeepers involved in profiteering.
