PEF is providing free education upto Matric level to 40 thousand students:Raja Anwar

The Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) is providing free education upto Matric level to 40 thousand deserving students through 419 partner schools under its New School Programme (NSP) in the province to promote gratis education in the education-wise backward areas. Keeping in view the great success of this programme, the phase-iv of expansion of NSP has been launched in 22 selected districts for providing free education to 67 thousand and 800 deserving students through 226 partner schools.

Chairman Punjab Education Foundation Raja Muhammad Anwar stated this while addressing the agreement signing ceremony of new schools entering into partnership with the PEF under NSP at Children’s Library Complex on Tuesday. A total of 226 school heads took part in the ceremony and signed partnership agreement with the PEF for imparting free education to the needy and deserving children in their areas.

While addressing the ceremony, Raja Anwar said that now a total of one lakh, seven thousand and eight hundred deserving students will benefit from this programme in the province. Under the NSP, Punjab Education Foundation besides providing monthly fee also provides text books to the students so that they could continue their education upto Matric level. He maintained that NSP has proved very successful in eradicating illiteracy and ignorance from the economically deprived remote hinterlands where schools are often not set up for want of resources or the parents could not send their children to way off schools due to lack of resources. This is especially beneficial for the girls who enjoy free schooling near to their homes, maintained Raja Anwar.

Earlier, Head of NSP Department Hassan Javed presented his address of welcome and explained various features of the expansion phase.
