Govt will ensure timely minimum wages to the labourers:Haji Ehsan

Lahore:Minister Labour Punjab Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi has said labour department will spend Rs. 4.31 billion for the provision of state of the art healthcare facilities to the labourers and their families during current fiscal year, whereas, government has allocated Rs. 84 billion for the provision of healthcare facilities to the people in the province.He said that labour department is working on a scheme regarding provision of medical facilities for retired workers and their families by the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution’s (PESSI) hospitals.

While addressing delegations labourers and general public, Haji Ehsaan-ud-Din Qureshi said that focus of the government is upon primary and protective healthcare so that to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). He said that the timely payment of minimum wages i.e. Rs. 9000/- per month, by the employers, would be ensured.

He said that labour department has provided Rs.75million interest free micro credit among brick kilns workers in two districts for the elimination of bonded labour, child labour, exploitation of brick kiln workers. He said that 200 non-formal education centers are providing 7000students at brick kilns in Lahore and Kasur districts whereas about 5700 workers were facilitated to acquire CNICs.
